KNIT OR CROCHET WARM GARMENTS

What Should I Make?

The only specification is that what you make needs to be warm. Any of the following would be suitable, but we are especially desperate for hats, scarves and mittens. Wool is preferred, because it is the most weather resistant material, but the need is so great that all yarns will be accepted.

  • Hats
  • Scarves
  • Mittens / Gloves
  • Ponchos / Shawls
  • Thick socks
  • Jumpers
  • Blankets

What sizes do you need most?

We are primarily focussing on collecting clothing for children, who are more vulnerable to the extreme cold. All sizes are needed, from infant sizes through to teenagers. However, if you have the time and resources to create full size garments, they will be welcome. While an infant may die due to the freezing temperatures, when mothers are frozen and begging in the streets we would like to do something to change that too.

Do you have patterns that I should use?

We have provided a Patterns page with links to our own patterns and other free pattern resources on the web, but you can use your own patterns if your prefer. Our patterns page is there only to help you get started, not to restrict what you make. We will be continuously adding new patterns you can use, so if you would like to stay up-to-date with the patterns we have available, please consider subscribing to our blog.

SEND US YOUR FINISHED GARMENTS

Where do I send Them?

At the moment, we only have a collection point in Melbourne, Australia. All finished goods can be posted to:

The WinterWarm Project
PO Box 1076
Belvedere Park LPO
Seaford, Victoria
Australia 3198

We are in the process of arranging many other collection points, including the UK and the USA and we will keep you updated as these evolve.

Can I arrange a pick-up or drop-off?

If you are located in Melbourne, pick-ups or drop-offs can be arranged via our contact form.

When do you need them by?

Goods will be shipped to Afghanistan in October of each year so that they arrive just before the winter sets in. All items should arrive at WinterWarm no later than 15th of September.
